Celebrate Christmas in the city GO! Southampton to host three-day Countdown to Christmas event

Get ready for the festive season with GO! Southampton, the city’s Business Improvement District is launching its spectacular Countdown to Christmas programme. Kicking off on Friday, 15th of November with three hours of unmissable entertainment from 4pm.

The official Countdown to Christmas will also see the opening of the much-loved Christmas market running 15th November –  5th  January, organised by S&D Leisure.

On Friday 15th November from 6pm the main stage by the iconic Bargate will see a host of entertainment and performances before the city’s Christmas lights are switched on. This will also be the premier showing of the market’s light show on the Bargate. Christmas characters and live music will parade the streets to keep people of all ages entertained. From 6 – 9pm on Friday and Saturday Carlton Place and Oxford Street will come alive with some festive fun too.

Stephen Manion, Executive Director at GO! Southampton said: “Every year people flock to Southampton for our Christmas celebrations. Whether they are here for the Christmas lights switch on, or want to meet one of their favourite costume characters, we’re hoping that there’s something for everyone across the three days.

“We’ve moved the main event from Thursday to Friday in hope that people will be able to stay out for longer and enjoy what’s on offer in the evening across the city.”

Events, live music and activities will take place across the city centre on Saturday and Sunday – from Oxford Street to Guildhall Square with plenty to do for families and children. And the best part, it’s all free.
