Get back to nature, enjoy the fresh air, and meet some new people by signing up to a free weekly ‘Wednesday Wellbeing Walk’ in Southampton City Centre.
The walks, run by GO! Southampton, along with Mark Darcy from Mark Darcy Consultancy, are aimed to help city workers get out and about and make the most of their lunchtime breaks.
The first walk kicked off this week, with a dozen keen walkers meeting in the city centre who enjoyed the sunshine as well as the exercise. The group met at the Peace Fountain in East Park, and headed off to discover some of Southampton’s award-winning green spaces.
They were joined by Southampton City Council leader, Cllr Lorna Fielker, who said: “This is a great initiative. Taking in some air, and feeling the sun on your face is such a great way to spend a lunchtime. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk, and would encourage anyone that’s in the city centre on a Wednesday to join in.”
With a focus on improving mental health and wellbeing in the city, GO! Southampton is keen to spread the word.
Flo Bevis, Marketing Manager, said: “Now the weather is getting better, we hope these walks encourage our members to get out the office and enjoy our Green Flag parks whilst having a friendly chat to others and soaking up some vitamin D!”
Mark Darcy said: “The purpose is to bring people together to help combat loneliness and mental health issues while having meaningful conversations and connections. I encourage everyone to bring an open mind, and a willingness to meet new friends. You might even learn something along the way!”
To join in head to the Queen’s Peace Fountain in East Park, also known locally as Andrews Park, every Wednesday from 12:45-1:15pm.
