A Southampton restaurant is reaching stack-tacular new heights – after revealing it flips more than 10,000 pancakes a month.
Stakks Pancake House, located in the city’s Marlands Shopping Centre, has also said that their hard-working chefs create so many pancakes that if placed side-by-side, they would cover a distance of 2.4 miles*, which is equivalent to the distance from the restaurant to the north end of Southampton Common.
For Stakks Owner Anna Copper, the success of the family-friendly restaurant has been an “incredible journey” which started during her childhood in Armenia.
She said: “Pancakes are a huge part of Armenian culture; we usually have them with most meals. My mum would make us crepes every morning and our daughters have been brought up having sweet and savoury pancakes on a daily basis.
“My children were the inspiration behind Stakks. Southampton has an incredible choice of restaurants, but my girls always wanted pancakes whenever we dined out. This made me wonder why there weren’t more pancake houses in the city.
“In Armenia, family is the centre of everything. Traditionally we pride ourselves on looking after the young and old. Whenever it’s dinner time, everybody goes out together. That’s when the idea of creating a family-oriented venue centered around pancakes came to mind.”
Stakks – a member of GO! Southampton’s Business Improvement District – is open Monday-Saturday 9am-8pm and Sunday 10am-5pm. The restaurant offers fresh pancakes daily including American-style, traditional crepes, gluten free, dairy free and vegan, and all ingredients are locally sourced where possible
Anna added: “Supporting the local economy is one of our top priorities, and we partner with many local businesses from our food and beverage suppliers to our maintenance and restaurant technology providers.
The Marland’s Shopping Centre has 60 shops on two floors and offers direct access onto the main shopping street, Above Bar.
There are 29 businesses in the popular shopping destination that are GO! Southampton levy payers, including Neds Noodle Bar, Moss Bros and the Sea Life Play Centre.
Anna continued: “Marlands has been our home for eight years and they have been amazing. We are proud of the success we’ve had here and have some exciting plans for growth in the future – so watch this space!”
Stephen Manion, Chief Executive of GO! Southampton said: “We are thrilled that Stakks is creating a buzz in Southampton, it’s a prime example of the diverse choice of cuisine that we offer in this vibrant city, which will no doubt attract visitors from far and wide.
“It is hugely important to support independent businesses, which do a remarkable job in encouraging footfall to the city and supporting local employment and suppliers and play a vital part in keeping the city’s economy strong.”
GO! Southampton is the Business Improvement District for Southampton. Its mission is to continuously improve the city centre by delivering relevant services, providing a voice for local businesses, influencing strategy and being a catalyst for positive change.
