GO! Southampton has launched a brand-new visitor website for Southampton with support from Southampton City Council.

VisitSouthampton.co.uk aims to showcase the city and give visitors all the information they need for a trip to Southampton. It includes useful advice on everything from places to eat and shop to top tips for cruise passengers looking to explore the city’s history.

While the website’s primary aim is to arm tourists, cruise passengers and other visitors with information, GO! Southampton says it hopes the site will also inspire local people to explore the city more.

Chief Executive, Giles Semper, says: “As the city’s BID (Business Improvement District), one of our most important roles is to make Southampton a great place to visit and to attract people to the city centre. We hope the new website will be used both by visitors and by residents to explore new places they haven’t perhaps heard about or thought of trying before.”

City Networking

GO! Southampton even has plans for local people to contribute to the website going forward.

Giles added: “There’s something great about going on holiday and finding out where the locals like to eat, drink and explore. We hope to replicate that in time with a new feature called ‘locals love’, where people share their recommendations and top tips for places to visit.”

The website will also feature blogs from local people and details of discounts available at local shops.

The launch of the new website for Southampton has been welcomed by Cllr Satvir Kaur, Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture at Southampton City Council, which has part-funded the website.

She said: “There is always something happening in Southampton, and this new Visit Southampton website will ensure no one has to miss out. Not only will it offer a comprehensive list of everything that’s happening in Southampton, but also highlights the amazingly diverse sights and sounds of our great city, for visitors as well as local residents who want to make new discoveries in their hometown.

“Southampton is bursting with activity and world class art, culture and heritage; we have wonderful places to eat and drink, shop and stay. Southampton is already a thriving destination city, and Visit Southampton is an incredible step in showcasing this. A special thanks to everyone that helped make it possible.”
