Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, No Limits, ABP Associates and Quilter PLC are just some of the renowned businesses attending a free careers event hosted by GO! Southampton and Southampton City Council.

The Southampton Jobs and Careers Fair taking place on Tuesday 25 April is free to attend and aims to link local jobseekers with employers and businesses across Southampton.

A number of well-known Southampton businesses and organisations will be in attendance to give guests the opportunity to find out about jobs on offer, receive personalised careers advice, and speak to employers who are actively searching for new members of their team.

A range of sectors will be covered, including customer service, maritime, construction, healthcare and administration, and there will be an opportunity for some business-to-business networking. Organisations and charities offering wellbeing and mental health support will also be on hand to give advice.

Training providers will be available to help those looking to develop their skills. There will also be business information services provided by the Business & IP Centre (BIPC), with services to help people start or grow their business. And, for careers support, the Council’s Employment Support Team will be there to offer help with updating CVs, increasing confidence when applying for jobs and developing interview skills.

Stephen Manion, Executive Director at GO! Southampton, the City’s Business Improvement District (BID), said, “Southampton has a fantastic pool of talented candidates, and the city is an exceptional place to work, with plenty of opportunities available in leading sectors.”

In line with the BID’s commitment to boosting employment in the city, GO! Southampton has also introduced a city centre Jobs Board on its website and is asking its member businesses to promote their vacancies via the page, free of charge, as part of their ‘Work in the City’ campaign.

Stephen added: “Our city’s thriving arts scene means that our Jobs Board regularly advertises roles at some of the city’s finest venues, including the Mayflower Theatre – the largest theatre on the South Coast, and its sister venue MAST Mayflower Studios. Large professional service companies such as Quilter and Carnival also reside in Southampton offering plenty of opportunities in the legal and financial sectors.

“We hope that this, along with the Southampton Jobs and Careers Fair, will showcase the vacancies available in the city and bridge the gap between those looking for a job and those looking to expand their teams.”

Councillor Sarah Bogle, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said:

“Southampton is a dynamic city of opportunity with many exciting vacancies across a wide range of sectors. The Southampton Jobs and Careers Fair is a great opportunity to bring employers and jobseekers together alongside organisations which provide mental health, wellbeing, skills and training support to make a fantastic and inclusive event for people seeking to take the next step in their careers.”

The Southampton Jobs Careers Fair, running from 10am – 4.30pm, is free to attend and will take place in the FigFlex Offices at Frobisher House, next to Central Train Station.
