The City’s Business Improvement District (BID) GO! Southampton is supporting the first-ever National Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) Awareness Week, taking place from 17th March 2025 to help reduce crime in the city centre.
The Southampton Business Crime Partnership (SBCP), an accredited BCRP run by GO! Southampton, will be working closely with local businesses and partners throughout the week to increase engagement and provide additional support. This includes deploying extra resources in the city centre, conducting business visits to raise awareness of crime prevention tools like the DISC crime reporting portal and gathering feedback from businesses through a survey on retail crime perceptions and challenges.
Jade McCauley, Operations Manager at GO! Southampton, said: “Business crime affects everyone whether they are staff or shoppers and has a huge impact the appeal of the city centre and how safe people feel while spending time in Southampton.
“By working in partnership with businesses, police, and local authorities, we can share intelligence, intervene sooner and create a safer environment for all.
“National BCRP Awareness Week is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work we do locally to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour. We encourage businesses to engage with the SBCP, use the DISC reporting system, and share their feedback so we can continue to shape an effective, collaborative response to crime in Southampton.”
As part of its commitment to business crime reduction, the SBCP provides a city-wide radio network, real-time intelligence sharing and direct links to police and CCTV control rooms to help track offenders and prevent crime before it happens. The partnership also supports key safety initiatives such as Safe Spaces, Ask for Angela and Best Bar None to improve safety across Southampton.
GO! Southampton encourages all city centre businesses to participate in National BCRP Awareness Week by engaging with SBCP initiatives and providing feedback to strengthen local crime prevention efforts.
