GO! Southampton has announced a new campaign to shine a spotlight on the many delights and discoveries awaiting anyone who visits the city’s Old Town.
“Love the Old Town is all about raising awareness and showcasing the fantastic offer Old Town presents, inspiring those who live and work in the city to go and explore what’s available right on their doorstep,” said Flo Bevis, Marketing Manager at GO! Southampton.
“Whether you’re a food lover, a history buff, a fan of live music, or just looking for a great day out, the Old Town has something special for everyone.”
The campaign, promoted via Visit Southampton and Your Southampton, runs throughout September and will promote the area’s food and drink, nightlife, culture, arts, leisure, shopping and events, highlighting the fact that the Old Town isn’t just full of history but has so much more to offer.
“This is such an exciting opportunity to open people’s eyes to the riches all around them,” said Hannah Preston, Venue Manager at medieval arts and heritage venue, God’s House Tower.
“Old Town is a mini destination in itself. Every visit offers something new, from centuries-old history to world-class dining in more than 50 restaurants, bars and cafes. People can kick back and watch the world go by or let loose at night with exciting live music. And the best bit is that it’s all right here waiting for them.”
Encompassing the Bargate, the medieval city walls and vaults, Southampton’s Old Town has a wealth of history to discover. Ros Cassy, Convenor of the Old Town Community Forum shared her favourite historical spot. She said: “It’s hard to pick a favourite, but St Michael’s Church, built in 1070 is astounding. It’s the oldest church that’s still in use in the whole city. It’s well worth a visit.
“We’re pleased there’s a light being shone on everything Old Town has to offer, and we welcome visitors who want to come and explore our rich history and heritage that we’re so lucky to have right on our doorstep.”
To help whet people’s appetite for exploring the Old Town, there will be some tempting offers available on the SO card, running in September only, including:
- 20% off September events at The 1865
- Fish and chips with a drink £13/soft drink £10 at The Platform Tavern
- 25% off bar drinks at The Star Hotel
- 20% off Escape Rooms at Dark Arts Potion Bar
“This campaign also ties in with some exciting events taking place in Old Town in September, including Heritage Open Days, Southampton Cocktail Week and Music In The City,” continued Flo Bevis. “Plus, there will be giveaways on the Your Southampton Facebook and Instagram channels.”
As well as a digital campaign, a printed guide will be delivered to some SO14/SO15 postcodes and there will be plenty of places to pick up the guide including The Marlands, SeaCity Museum, Moxy hotel, God’s House Tower, Bluestar Travelshop and more.
