Southampton city centre is all set for an exciting schedule of events in the run-up to Christmas. The festive fun kicks off on 17 November with the Countdown to Christmas event.
Southampton city centre is all set for an exciting schedule of events in the run up to Christmas.
The festive fun kicks off on 17 November with the Countdown to Christmas event, 3 hours of special entertainment including a headline act from a multi-platinum selling vocal group.
Christmas characters will parade the streets from 4pm – 6pm including an impressive movement, music and lighting show from SPARK! From 6pm city-goers will be treated to music from a variety of local acts as well as the turning on of the Christmas lights in the city.
Roaming theatre features everything from The Snow Lion and The Snow King and Queen to the Christmas Penguins and Runaway Elves as well as live on-street music.
Taking it to the stage on the closed Above Bar Street, Company B and Cordelectra form the line-up of entertainment.
Stephen Manion, Executive Director at GO! Southampton said: “The Christmas lights switch-on event is always a highlight in the city centre calendar. It not only makes for a fabulous festive evening out with friends and family but also highlights our city’s high street, boosting trade in local shops, bars and restaurants. We can’t wait to announce our headline act for the stage too, guaranteed to bring some festive joy to the city.”
As well as musical entertainment, families will be able to take part in ‘The Great Elf Investigation’ a free family Christmas walking trail, allowing families to go on an adventure to help search for some of Father Christmas’ missing toys.
When shopping local this Christmas in participating businesses, visitors will receive a special competition slip to post into one of the city’s designated Christmas post boxes. All competition slips will then be entered into a ‘Big Christmas Giveaway’ prize draw, giving entrants a chance to win a fabulous selection of prizes, ranging from theatre tickets to gift cards. The Big Christmas Giveaway, hosted by GO! Southampton, will run from 17 November – 1 January.
