GO! Southampton has been transforming public spaces across Southampton with a range of eye-catching art installations.
Working with local artists and businesses, the city’s Business Improvement District (BID), has funded more than 13 public art projects since 2022, helping to create an attractive and welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.
Projects include striking murals on Above Bar Street and at the train station, brightly decorated bollards in Mayflower Park, and painted telephone boxes, which have brought a splash of colour to the city’s Old Town. GO! Southampton also worked with STUDIOCANCAL to welcome Paddington Bear, which has proved to be extremely popular with city-goers.

Callum Young, Creator and Founder of Licc Designs said: “Public art plays a really important role in bringing an identity to our city. It gives residents and visitors something to enjoy, while helping us feel proud of the place we live.
“I’ve worked with GO! Southampton on a range of projects. From large-scale murals, like the one you’ve probably seen at Southampton Central train station, featuring artwork by a local university student, to renovating telephone boxes, installing floor art and creating interactive activities at public events.
“I’ve seen the positive reactions from people who stop to chat while we’re painting or installing artwork. I’d love to see more art projects in the city centre so that more people can enjoy the spaces in which they live and work.”

As GO! Southampton prepares to go to ballot this October, it plans to continue investing in art projects that celebrate the character and culture of the city.
Stephen Manion, Executive Director of GO! Southampton said: “These installations have not only enhanced the appearance of public spaces but they have also highlighted the incredible talent we have here in Southampton.
Stephen added: “As we go to ballot, we want to build on this success by continuing to work with partners and local artists to ensure Southampton remains an attractive, welcoming and inspiring place to live, work and visit.”

The BID’s ballot will take place from 30 October – 26 November 2026, giving BID levy payers the opportunity to vote on whether they want GO! Southampton to continue delivering services and improvements for another five‑year term.
