For one day each year the world unites to help tackle and reduce the amount of litter on our streets, parks and in our community. Decathlon in Southampton couldn’t be prouder to join the movement and take part in a litter picking walk, taking place on September 15th.

The store, based in Harbour Parade, wants to encourage colleagues, businesses and the rest of the community to get involved in cleaning up the city. World Cleanup Day, which takes place on September 16th – the day after the event, brings together millions of volunteers in over 190 countries all hoping to make real change in the battle to address the global waste problem and work towards a cleaner environment.

Roberto Morales, Operations Manager at Decathlon Southampton said: “At Decathlon, we want to become a driving force and a beacon of light for a sustainable future, we have big sustainability ambitions and believe our actions speak louder than words. We have a duty to contribute positively to our local environment and communities around our stores across the UK.”

Decathlon, found in Harbour Parade, Southampton is going big by leading the charge on a litter pick walk. The team will provide you with everything you need to get involved; gloves, bin bags and litter pickers will all be available on the day. All you need to do to help make a difference is to meet the team from 11am on Friday, September 15th outside the old Toys R Us building, in front of the train station.

Stephen Manion, Executive Director, GO! Southampton said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Decathlon on this brilliant cause, we would love to see some great take up on this. Wear your walking boots and bring some water and don’t forget to have fun!”

GO! Southampton team members will be joining in on the day as well as providing a cleaning team to pick up the bags of litter afterwards.

If going for green and being part of the city clean up isn’t a feel-good factor enough, Decathlon is also offering a £5 voucher reward. You can pick this up if you join any local decathlon store on a cleaning walk this September. You’ll be rewarded 250 points (worth £5) for your contribution towards a cleaner environment. T&Cs apply, see your booking confirmation email for details.
