Mental Health Aware Course [18th October]

October 18 @ 09:30 - 13:30

Learn about Mental Health, ways to support people experiencing mental ill health and ways to look after your own wellbeing.

GO! Southampton has seen first hand how mental health is impacting businesses and their teams throughout the pandemic. Protecting your wellbeing and those around you is always important, and it seems especially difficult to do during times like this.

GO! Southampton has arranged for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for Southampton business owners and their staff. We have selected the highly qualified organisation MHFA England who came strongly recommended, to provide the support needed for businesses and their teams.

Although this course is free, places are limited and are paid for through funding so please ensure you can attend this date or offer to a colleague if you cannot.

Tickets are limited to two per BID member business but if you would like more of your team to attend, or you have any questions, contact info@gosouthampton.co.uk.

What is Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill-health and provide help on a first aid basis.

MHFA England training won’t teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.

Adult MHFA England courses are for everyone aged 16 upwards. Every MHFA England course is delivered by a quality assured Instructor Member who has attended our Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health, and is trained to keep people safe and supported while they learn.

What will I learn?
Learning takes place through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions.

This half day introductory course is designed to increase mental health awareness and give an understanding of how to look after wellbeing and challenge stigma.

When you complete your course you will get a certificate of attendance and a manual to keep and refer to whenever you need it.

How will attending an MHFA England course help?
Research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA England course:

  • Raises awareness and mental health literacy
  • Reduces stigma around mental ill health
  • Boosts knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues
  • Promotes early intervention which enables recovery

Please note these sessions are only for GO! Southampton levy-paying businesses.
