Southampton set to be illuminated – with never before seen projection display

GO! Southampton is set to light up the city with an impressive series of illuminations this winter, starting with a spectacular visual experience.

This projection mapping experience will be displayed on the iconic Grade I listed Bargate monument and will span the length of the North side. Using state of the art mapping technology, the projections will reveal a unique visual experience never seen in the city before bringing the building to life

Appealing to both adults and children alike, the projection show will tell stories of Southampton’s past, present and future, narrated by the city’s mythical founder Sir Bevois, who will regale his tales to his friend – the Christmas Giant.

The projection show will run on November 21, 22 and 23at 6pm. The show includes footage from a number of stakeholders across the city including ABP Port of Southampton, Southampton Football Club, toob and the city’s archives all of which will be brought to life.

Giles Semper, chief executive of GO! Southampton said that this is a must-see display for both locals and visitors: “With the Mayflower 400 events taking place in the city next year, we wanted to go the extra mile with our winter campaign by doing something different.

“The projections not only demonstrate the rich and varied history of Southampton, but also showcase our city’s exciting future.  We urge everyone who is in Southampton doing their Christmas shopping to come and see this wonderful free display and celebrate what a truly fantastic city we are.”

Nick Parbutt, CEO and Founder of toob says that Southampton’s rich history and vibrant present is something to be extremely proud of: “We are delighted to support this spectacular projection mapping show which tells the story of this incredible city. Through our recent work rolling out £50m worth of brand new full fibre network in the city, we are proud to play a part in Southampton’s exciting future by improving its digital connectivity.”
