Go! Southampton has recently issued a tender to provide rangers for the streets of the BID area.
The scheme will provide a daily presence in the city centre with staff dedicated to reporting issues, helping visitors and meeting regularly with BID Businesses. The tender provides for a 7-day, daytime service with links to Southampton City Council’s enforcement teams, the police, Southampton Business Against Crime (SOBAC) and other organisations that deal with issues in the city centre.
Spencer Bowman, Go! Southampton Director and Chair of the City Experience Theme Group said:
“The rangers will be a very visible presence in the city centre and will report issues such as shoplifting, begging, fly tipping, broken furniture, wobbly paving stones, malfunctioning lighting and any other issues they come across.”
He added “Their role will also involve regularly meeting BID businesses to provide two-way communications on the BID and its activities, hearing from levy payers what they see as the main issues in the BID area.”
The deadline for responses to the tender is 16th March, after which proposals will be shortlisted and suppliers interviewed. The winning contractor will be notified on 10th April with the contract start date being 1st May.
