Two businesses on Bedford Place and two on East Street have been announced as winners in the Winning Winter Windows competition organised by GO! Southampton.
The competition began on 4th December and involved members of the public voting for their favourite of over 35 Christmas windows. There was also an expert panel made up of visual merchandisers from Southampton’s John Lewis and Ikea stores.
The public vote in the Bedford Place and London Road competition was won by Sugarflick, an independent business specialising in hair removal, while the expert panel chose Scarpini, a designer shoe and accessory shop.
Owner of Scarpini, Joy Foote said,
“Winning the competition has been a real boost. We have a display every year but it’s great to get recognition from the experts! The competition has been an excellent way to add excitement in the area.”
In East Street, the public chose Ponden Home Interiors as their favourite, while the expert vote went to independent shop, Perrys Art Supplies. Kate Dukes, Section Manager for Home and Visual Merchandising at John Lewis Southampton commented on their choice:
“The East Street winner for us was Perrys Art Supplies for their use of eye catching lights, showing off their products and how they can be used in their window. There was even some original Christmas themed art and someone painting in the window. If we are lucky enough to be asked to help out again, we cannot wait to see even more originality in windows next year.'
A total of 450 people submitted their votes and were automatically entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher for the shop of their choice. The two winners have been drawn and notified and will collect their vouchers from their chosen shops, W J French and Lucid.
Competition organisers from Go! Southampton were delighted with both the number of shops taking part and the number of public voting. Vice-chair of the Board, Spencer Bowman said:
“Go! Southampton is dedicated to supporting businesses in all areas of the BID zone, so encouraging footfall into these exciting but sometimes overlooked areas of town is really important to us. I’m delighted at the level of participation in the Winning Winter Windows competition, both from the businesses themselves and from the public, and our thanks goes also to our experts who braved freezing temperatures to give us their professional opinions.”
